Jean Margaret Cocozza
Jean Margaret Cocozza is a judge of the Cook Judicial Circuit Court in Illinois. She was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court on January 14, 2013, to replace Jesse G. Reyes for a term that expired in December of 2014. She was appointed to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Noreen Love in November 2014.[1][2] Cocozza was reappointed in April 2016 and in June 2019.[3][4]
Biography
Cocozza earned her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1989.[5] Prior to joining the court as a judge, Cocozza served as a senior law clerk to Illinois Supreme Court Justice Charles Freeman for 15 years.[6] She had no experience as a defense lawyer, prosecutor or litigator, but when Freeman recommended her for judgeship the other justices agreed to appoint her to the circuit court.[7]
