Hoskins ran in the 2012 election for Illinois House of Representatives District 7. Hoskins ran against Beyonca Johnson, Chris Welch and Princess Dempsey in the Democratic primary on March 20, 2012. Unofficial results show Welch defeated Hoskins by 36 votes. Since the race was so close it was not called until April 3.[1][2] No candidates filed to run in the Republican primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[3][4]

Hoskins and his wife, Monique, have four children.
