Alan Martinez (Georgia)
Alan Martinez was a candidate for District 3 representative on the Carroll County Board of Education in Georgia. Martinez lost in the general election on May 24, 2016.[1]
Martinez was a Republican candidate in the December 2011 special election for the Georgia House of Representatives, District 68. The special election was called to fill the vacancy created when Tim Bearden (R) resigned to accept an appointment as Director of the Georgia Law Enforcement Training Center.[2]

Four of the seven seats on the Carroll County Board of Education were up for general election on May 24, 2016. Incumbent Bart Cater ran unopposed for re-election in District 6. Rob Cleveland won re-election in District 1 against challenger Bernice Brooks, while District 4 incumbent Denise Askin defeated Jessie Strickland and Clayton Kierbow. Bob Pinckney defeated Alan Martinez for the District 3 seat.[1]

Martinez and Dustin Hightower (R) were the top two vote-getters in the December 6 special election. They faced fellow Republicans Thom Fitzpatrick, Tim Whetstone, and Marc Lattanzio. Libertarian candidate James Camp also ran. Hightower and Martinez received 41.8% and 21.3% of the vote, respectively. They proceeded to a runoff election on January 3, 2012 where Hightower defeated Martinez.[3][4]
