I'm a current member of the Unionville Town Council. I've lived in Unionville my entire life, and enjoy this role for the chance to serve my community. I'm a paramedic and firefighter, and also a volunteer with several organizations. My priorities include keeping taxes low, giving back to the community, and ensuring public safety.
  • I believe in maintaining our RA 40 zoning throughout the town. Most people call this one house per acre zoning. Our residents have said over and over since the town reincorporated in the late 90s, that they prefer this, and it is a priority to keep it.
  • Unionville already does a great job of maintaining the area as a great place to live. By supporting organizations in the town like American Legion post 535, the Lions, and community support organizations like The Red Cross, and Council on Aging, the Town Council helps provide support to organizations that are already in the community working for citizens. This is done while keeping taxes low and assisting those organizations already in place. Council also supports organizations like the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department that are non-profits serving in the town, not as departments of a government entity. Council also assists with events that bring families and groups together, like the Fourth of July and Christmas parades.
  • In addition to supporting organizations in town, I believe it is important to support our schools in whatever way we can. Whether it is supporting teachers with supplies in the classroom, or supporting fundraisers like the annual Unionville Barbeque, every aspect of our schools is important. Part of that is also honoring our town's rich history of school support. I would like to see us continue to honor our town's history by placing historical markers for the Unionville High School as well as the original Union Institute.
As a Paramedic and Firefighter, I'm passionate about public safety. Providing for our fire department, and doing what we can to support our sheriff's office are, and should always remain priorities. I'm proud Unionville was recently recognized as the safest town in North Carolina for a town of our size.
One of the things I appreciate about the Office of Commissioner in Unionville is that it is a volunteer position. Unionville has a long history of volunteerism in the community, and the council is no different. Many citizens serve this community, some without the recognition they deserve, and this office is a continuation of that. Unionville is one of only two municipalities that maintain this volunteer aspect of office.
There are many great examples of people I look up to in my own life, including my parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents. Some of them are no longer with us, but they all serve as great examples to live by.
The candidate who wins should be able to work with the other members of council to find common ground, and work to get things done. Creating strife and hostility doesn't get things done. This is a great community in part because its leaders work well together to get things done.
The legacy I would like to leave for my time in public office is the importance of being an authentic servant leader. Taking care of others, supporting the community and its organizations is the basic purpose of this role, and I want to be remembered for accomplishing that.
I worked as a patient transporter at Union Regional Medical Center. This job helped pave the way to me becoming an EMT, and then eventually a Paramedic. I've been with the same hospital system for 23 years now.
I think the most important aspect of this office isn't necessarily experience, although it does matter, and it can be beneficial. The most important quality for someone to hold this office is a love of this community, and a desire to serve it, not for one's own benefit, but the benefit of the community.
The qualities this office possesses that are unique to the town includes the fact that this office is tied so closely to the community we live in. While we don't control things like roads, or trash collection, we are local and able to take concerns of the citizen into account from the local level.
I'm proud of my record of working with the council to support this community, I'm proud of how we have supported organizations in the town, and I'm proud of the fact that we have done a lot to recognize the rich history our community has.
