|- Unify the community. I have taken the opportunity to listen to many community members and I hear a common theme. What I don't see is, those getting involved as change occurs. It is vital for the people to have a complete by-in and work together to ensure we have input and the impact on our outcome.
- We need to acknowledge and understand what the investment looks like within the city. Times are changing and we don't want to become a forgotten town. What do I mean by this? We can't become a seasonal city, where we try and encompass our goal within the warmer months and during the colder season, we go to sleep and awake in the spring with the same goals from previous year. We have to invest in businesses, our youth and housing to bring down property tax and not only keeping our community dollar within but drawing other's to spend their dollars here as well.
- Unity, transparency, and diversity go hand and hand. I was raised that, we as blacks didn't go out to the white cities. We were not allowed or welcomed. There were a bunch of misleading and bias information which was provided to those like me for many years and this is still being done today. I am here to be a pioneer for all people to see that, when we are able to look past skin color, we are more alike than we're different. We all want safety, security, prosperity and a healthy living environment for our youth. It took me to date a white woman, who encouraged me to expand and when I did, I was introduced to an entire new world and now I want to open those same doors for others. It is because of you Jessica Shepherd, this is possible.
