My name is Anthijuan Beeks Sr. I am born and raised in the great State of Minnesota. I have six wonderful children and four outstanding grandchildren. Although, I have spent the majority of my life in the Metropolitan area, over the past three years, I consider small town America I.e. Cannon Falls home.
  • Unify the community. I have taken the opportunity to listen to many community members and I hear a common theme. What I don't see is, those getting involved as change occurs. It is vital for the people to have a complete by-in and work together to ensure we have input and the impact on our outcome.
  • We need to acknowledge and understand what the investment looks like within the city. Times are changing and we don't want to become a forgotten town. What do I mean by this? We can't become a seasonal city, where we try and encompass our goal within the warmer months and during the colder season, we go to sleep and awake in the spring with the same goals from previous year. We have to invest in businesses, our youth and housing to bring down property tax and not only keeping our community dollar within but drawing other's to spend their dollars here as well.
  • Unity, transparency, and diversity go hand and hand. I was raised that, we as blacks didn't go out to the white cities. We were not allowed or welcomed. There were a bunch of misleading and bias information which was provided to those like me for many years and this is still being done today. I am here to be a pioneer for all people to see that, when we are able to look past skin color, we are more alike than we're different. We all want safety, security, prosperity and a healthy living environment for our youth. It took me to date a white woman, who encouraged me to expand and when I did, I was introduced to an entire new world and now I want to open those same doors for others. It is because of you Jessica Shepherd, this is possible.
This position provides the people the opportunity to have their voices heard and have impact on their outcomes on a level that truly impacts them in a more direct manner.
My mother. She was amazing. There is truly not enough words to explain the foundation she provided. She would be so proud.
No, as I haven't written one yet. There's no book, film etc. That represents me or my philosophy on politics. The best way to understand my views on politics is to hold a conversation over a cup of coffee.
Transparency and being available to the people. You will see a lot of questions about what does the candidate think, feel or believe? That's the wrong question. The question that should be ask is what does the people feel are most important principles. It is the people who make the laws and regulations. City officials only carry out your voice and this is why it's vital to be involved. Times are changing, we can no longer hold any standard meeting and believe we have educated, empowered or enhanced the people. We have to come from behind the desk, many hold so high and mighty and meet the people where they're. We can't take things personal and believe we're going to accomplish anything. Here is a shocker, it's ok to agree to disagree but we must be respectful. So when you ask me about characteristics and principles, my response to that's treat those like they're family. At the end of the day, if we don't stand together, devided we shall fall.
The quality I hold dear is, I believe in the people. I believe in treating those with respect, dignity, grace. I believe in God and this is what will allow me to be successful.
This is simple, be able to listen and receive constructive feedback from the people. Be transparent and explain to the people why... be fare, and consistent. This isn't rocket science but it's about being humanity. The quality and state of being human.
The legacy, I want to leave is, I fought for the people. I have the people best interest and I brought items to the City of Cannon Falls not only for today but for generations to come.
I was 55 years old and I am the first person of any nationality to seek election or hold any position within the infer structure pertaining to the City of Cannon Falls.
Summer youth job. About three months.
The Power by Colin Forbes. The insight it provides on our country.
Growing up without a father, being raised by a single parent, on welfare in low income housing, high crime communities.
No. Why? Because the power lies within the people. The people have acknowledge the true power they have and when they come to better there's almost nothing we can't accomplish. Yes, there are those rare times when items may be over ruled, but it's when the people believe their voices have been acknowledged, those in these seats don't have much to worry about as they will be supported the majority of the time.
No. Why? First, you don't have to look far to see those with experience doesn't mean they're the best qualified for the position. In addition to that, they too had to obtain their beginning at some point. We use word play, we use words and place emphasis on certain positions, making it appear more complex than what it's. It is when we use common knowledge, common sense, we have common understanding. One can always argue what's common or why does things have to be common and they will have a valid point. I have not seen to often where people who do the right get it wrong, why? because it's the common thing to do and you don't need experience for that.
It's always nice to have some insight on what one is seeking. Having passion is vital but one normally obtains the skills and knowledge as they complete the duties. I never use the term expertise, as this gives the appearance that you know everything and when you believe that, it's time to remove yourself from that position.
It provides the people the opportunity to have their voices heard and have input and impact on their outcome from a standpoint of how they're going to be directly involved and impacted.
Why did the chicken cross the road? Because.
We must have an open book on these type of things. Not only an annual report but a quarterly report. We need the people to request this type of public data. In addition to self transparency and accountability, the people should hold us to that standard as well.
