Minthorn ran for election in the 2012 election for Oregon State Senate District 29. With no opposition, he mounted a successful write-in bid in the May 15 Democratic primary, garnering 322 votes. Minthorn was defeated by incumbent Douglas K. Whitsett (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1]
