Arthur M. Birken is a senior family court judge of the 17th Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. He was appointed by former Governor Bob Martinez in April of 1988 to replace George Tedder, Jr. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2012.[1][2][3][4] Birken retired from the court in February 2017, but continued to serve as a senior judge.[5]

Education

Birken received his B.A. from New York University in 1970 and his J.D. from the Washington College of Law of American University in 1973.[6]

Career

Birken began his career in 1975 as assistant general counsel for Broward County. The following year he became a Hallandale assistant city attorney. Then, from 1978 to 1982, he was the city attorney of Tamarac. He joined the Broward County Court in 1982 and served there until his elevation to the circuit court in 1988.[6]

2012 election

Birken was unopposed and automatically re-elected following the primary election on August 14, 2012.[7]
