The Atlanta, Georgia, Property Tax Homestead Exemption was on the ballot as a referral in Atlanta on November 3, 2020. It was approved.

A "yes" vote supported authorizing a $30,000 property tax exemption for homes located on community land trusts defined as property subject to a lease of not less than 99 years to 501(c)(3) non-profit landlord.

A "no" vote opposed this measure authorizing a $30,000 property tax exemption for homes located on community land trusts defined as property subject to a lease of not less than 99 years to 501(c)(3) non-profit landlord.


A simple majority was required for the approval of Homestead Exemption.

Ballot title

The ballot title for this measure was as follows:

Shall the Act be approved which provides a new homestead exemption from City of Atlanta ad valorem taxes for municipal purposes in the amount of $30,000.00 for each resident of the City of Atlanta who holds real property subject to a written lease having an initial term of not less than 99 years with a landlord that is an entity exempt from taxation under Section 501(c)(3) of the federal Internal Revenue Code and who owns all improvements located on the real property?

This measure was put on the ballot by the state legislature. The legislature approved House Bill 1167 in June 2020, and Gov. Brian Kemp (R) signed it into law as Act 426 on June 30, 2020.[1]

The bill required Atlanta voters to decide a referendum on the proposed tax exemption before November 2022. The November 3, 2020 election was selected for the referendum question.[1]
