Basil Lorch was a judge on recalled status with the United States bankruptcy court, Southern District of Indiana. He was first appointed to the court on April 14, 1992, and was reappointed to another 14-year term in 2006. Lorch retired from the court effective December 31, 2016. At Lorch's request, by appointment of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, he began serving as a recalled federal judge on the court.

Lorch served in the role of chief judge from June 29, 2003, until April 30, 2010, when he was succeeded by Judge Anthony Metz.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Education

Lorch earned a bachelor's degree from Indiana University and a J.D. from Indiana University School of Law at Bloomington.[7]

Career

Prior to joining the court, Lorch was employed as the managing partner of the law firm of Lorch & Naville, where he focused on bankruptcy-related matters. While working at the firm, he also served as a Chapter 7 Trustee from 1978 to 1991. During Lorch's tenure on the bench, he taught as an adjunct law professor at his alma mater, the Indiana University School of Law at Bloomington.[8][9]
