An effort to recall Mayor Bruce Meyers and City Councilmember Bonita Steele did not qualify for the ballot in Belding, Michigan.[1]

Recall supporters

Resident Daniel DeGeest initiated the recall effort. DeGeest alleged that Meyers and Steele had failed “to ensure the wastewater treatment lagoons were properly maintained resulting in fines from Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE).”[1]

The Ionia County Election Commission denied the recall petition for circulation at a hearing in June 2022.[1]

For a recall election to be scheduled in Michigan, organizers must collect signatures equal to 25% of the number of people who voted in the previous gubernatorial election in the electoral district of the officer for whom a recall is sought.
