Charlie DeWitt Jr. is a former Democratic member of the Louisiana Public Service Commission, representing District 4. He was appointed to the commission by Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards (D) to complete the unexpired term of former Commissioner Clyde Holloway (R), who passed away in October 2016.[1] DeWitt did not seek election to a full term in 2016.[1]

Biography

Charles began his career in public service on the Rapides Parish Police Jury. He was then elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives and served from 1980-2008. He served as Speaker of the House from 2000-2004. DeWitt retired after being term limited.[2]

Louisiana Public Service Commission (2016-2017)

DeWitt was appointed to the Louisiana Public Service Commission on October 21, 2016, by Democratic Governor John Bel Edwards to fill a vacancy left by former Commissioner Clyde Holloway (R), who passed away on October 16, 2016. Dewitt did not seek election to a full term in 2016. He was succeeded by Mike Francis (R), who took office on January 3, 2017.[1][2][3]

Louisiana House of Representatives (1980-2008)

DeWitt served in the Louisiana House of Representatives from 1980-2008, including four years as Speaker of the House. He represented the 25th district until he was term limited.[2]
