I’m Charlitta Hatch. I am a proud CMS graduate, devoted mother, and technology executive. I’m running for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education in District 1 because I believe in the power of public schools to change lives because they changed mine.

I walked the halls of CMS as a student. Now, I walk them as a parent. I’ve seen our district from every angle: as a product of this system, a board member of the CMS Foundation and now as a mother navigating it for my own children. I know what’s possible when our schools are well-supported and I also know where we’ve fallen short.

I’m not running for politics. I’m running for purpose. For families who feel unheard. For educators who feel unseen. And for students who deserve classrooms that affirm their brilliance.

I love Charlotte. Charlotte has given so much to me. I’m ready to give back with bold ideas, community-driven leadership, and a fierce commitment to our children’s future. I’m Charlitta from Charlotte, and I’m running for all of us.
  • LOG IN: Family First, Always “Log In” is about showing up with heart as we connect with our families. As a mother and advocate, I will be the connector between the boardroom and the living room, ensuring family voices are not just heard but centered. When we log in to the realities of our communities, we build stronger, more connected schools.
  • LEVEL UP: Innovation with Intention “Level Up” means taking what works and making it work better using technology and bold thinking as we transform how we educate. I bring 20 years of experience in technology and data across public and private sectors to reimagine how CMS supports students and teachers, from AI-powered learning tools to operational efficiency that gets resources where they’re needed most.
  • LEAD FORWARD: Equity You Can Feel “Lead Forward” is about bold leadership that doesn’t look back or maintain the status quo. I will lead forward with integrity, equity, and a commitment to closing opportunity gaps across our district. From North Charlotte to Huntersville to Cornelius to Davidson, we move as one.

Radical Possibilities: Public Policy, Urban Education, and a New Social Movement by Jean Anyon

Summary:
Jean Anyon presents a powerful critique of neoliberal education policy and argues that education reform alone cannot overcome poverty and inequality. She calls for a new social movement that connects education to broader social justice issues like housing, healthcare, and employment.

Key Themes:
a)Educational inequality is deeply tied to economic and racial injustice.
b) We must fight for comprehensive social policy reform to achieve educational equity.
c) True change requires grassroots organizing and coalition-building beyond the school system.

Empowered Educators: How High-Performing Systems Shape Teaching Quality Around the World by Linda Darling-Hammond
Summary:
This comparative study analyzes teacher policies in high-performing countries (e.g., Finland, Singapore, Canada). It shows that investing in teacher preparation, leadership, and collaboration leads to better student outcomes. U.S. reforms, by contrast, often rely on accountability and testing rather than professional empowerment.

Key Themes:
a) Strong systems treat teachers as professionals, not just workers.
b) High-quality education comes from investing in teacher development, not just test scores.

c) We must shift from compliance-driven systems to trust-based models of improvement.

At its core, being a school board member is about stewarding the public trust ensuring every decision centers students, supports educators, and reflects the values of the community. It’s more than voting on budgets or policies; it’s about being accessible, accountable, and transparent in the ways we lead.

A strong board member listens first, asks the hard questions, and uses data, lived experience, and heart.
My first job was at the McCrorey YMCA. I got the job at 15, but couldn't start working at the front desk until I turned 16. I kept that job throughout high school and college and even got a job at the Hampton Roads YMCA in college and would transfer back and forth.
The residents of Charlotte-Mecklenburg with a focus on always centering students, teachers, staff, and families in decisions that impact them.
There is not one strategy that will work for everyone so I will have multiple communication strategies ensuring that they are two-way and not just one-way.
A good teacher sees the brilliance in each child and helps them grow from year to year. It is beyond test scores and we have to seek to find qualitative ways to measure and share the great work that is happening each and every day. I will support all policies that modernize and promotes innovative teaching strategies.
Why should you watch out for a pig who knows karate?
It might give you a porkchop!
The best ideal learning environment for student is one that is best for them to thrive. This means the environments that are needed may look different from student to student.
We should be as transparent as possible since the dollars belong to the community. The community should be a part of the decision making process and not jsut
