Two Chewelah School District Levy Measures were on the February 14, 2012 ballot in the Chewelah school district area which is in Stevens County.

The first measure sought to replace the current school levy which is set to expire with one set at a rate of $2.29 per $1,000 of assessed property value for a further four years in order to continue to pay for general fund maintenance and operational costs in the district.

The question on the ballot:

Proposition 1: The Board of Directors of Chewelah School District No. 36 adopted Resolution No. 2011-2012-1, concerning a proposition to finance maintenance and operation expenses. This proposition would authorize the District to levy the following excess taxes, in place of an expiring levy, on all taxable property within the District, for support of the District’s General Fund educational maintenance and operation expenses: Collection years: 2013-2016; Approximate Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value: $2.29; Levy Amount: $1.056,000. All as provided in Resolution No. 2011-2012-1. Should this proposition be approved?

Proposition 2: The Board of Directors of Chewelah School District No. 36 adopted Resolution No. 2011-2012-2, concerning replacement and modernization of Snyder Track and Football Field. This proposition would authorize the District to replace and modernize Snyder Track and Football Field, and levy the following excess taxes, on all taxable property within the District: Collection years: 2013-2015; Approximate Levy Rate/$1,000 Assessed Value: $.66; Levy Amount: $332,667. All as provided in Resolution No. 2011-2012-2. Should this proposition be approved?[3]
