- We must increase ridership at RTD. Ridership numbers have not come remotely close to matching pre-pandemic days even with a significant population increase in the area over the past few years. Traffic has, and will continue to get more congested and with that worsening carbon emissions. Increasing ridership will greatly help reduce traffic and carbon emissions as well as maximize the public and taxpayer's return on investment with RTD. Increasing ridership should be a key guiding principle in all RTD decisions and strategies.
- Improved service and customer experience -- RTD has been focused first on growth for the past 15+ years as they have been in expansion mode, but ridership cannot increase without a commitment to better service and an elevated customer experience. It’s essential to maintain and regularly audit tracks, vehicles, and trains to prevent unexpected failures and disrepair. Installing security cameras on buses, along with advanced video technology, will facilitate better monitoring and quicker response times. Additionally, aligning RTD leaders' bonuses with operational performance could serve as a strong incentive for improvement. These strategies are just a few ways RTD can elevate its service and customer experience.
- As a public agency funded by taxpayers—receiving 75% of its budget from them—RTD has a fundamental obligation to prioritize transparency and accountability. To fulfill this commitment, RTD provide operational data, dashboards, and reports to the public, making them accessible to the public in near real-time. When schedule changes, track closures, incidents, or accidents occur, RTD must promptly inform the public, clearly explaining the circumstances and outlining the steps being taken to address the issues. By fostering transparency and open communication, RTD can empower the public to hold the agency accountable for its performance.
I am a big proponent of the Clean Air Act, it is imperative we take care of our planet and leave it better off than we found it for the next generation. More people on public transportation and fewer cars on the roads is my short-term goal for RTD to improve carbon emissions while my longer-term goal is to transform RTD’s fleet to be more economically and environmentally friendly.
Stewardship - serving the needs of others first and foremost.
Listener - listen and understand both what is said and unsaid.
