Rhode Island: On April 12, Nicholas Coyle, 20, pleaded not guilty to charges that he killed a rabbit with a hockey stick and then used its dead body as a puck. The hearing occurred in the Superior Court of Newport. Coyle is due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on May 21.

News of the alleged rabbit slaying erupted in November of 2011 when some witnesses came forward. Joseph Warzycha, of the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, stated, "I think an example should be set here and I would like to see some jail time."[1] If convicted, Coyle could, in fact, face up to two years in prison, as well as up to $1,000 in fines.[1]
