David A. Berchelmann, Jr. was a judge for Texas District 37 in Bexar County, Texas. He retired in January of 2013.[1]

Noteworthy cases

Berchelmann heard the case of multiple charges of misconduct against Texas Court of Criminal Appeals chief justice Sharon Keller. Keller was charged with five counts of judicial misconduct for her behavior during a last-second appeal attempt by the defense for death-row inmate Michael Richard. She faced prosecution before Judge Berchelmann brought by the State Commission on Judicial Conduct.[2]

With the conclusion of the trial, Berchelmann must now respond "promptly" to compile a "findings of fact" report for the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. The Commission will use his findings to decide whether to censure Keller, drop the charges against her, or suggest that she be removed from office.[3]
