David I. Schmidt (Florida)
David I. Schmidt is a former justice of the Kings County Supreme Court, Civil Term in the 2nd Judicial District of New York. He was elected to this position in 2007.[1] He resigned in 2015.[2]
Education
Schmidt received his J.D. from the Brooklyn School of Law in 1982.[1]
Career
Schmidt began his judicial career in 1996 when he was elected to the New York City Civil Court. He served on this court through 2006. From 2000 to 2006, he was also an acting supreme court justice. He was elected to the supreme court in 2007.[1]
Noteworthy events
Lawsuit filed against judge (2014)
A lawsuit alleging sexual harassment was filed against Judge David Schmidt in December 2014 by his former secretary. The lawsuit included complaints that Schmidt had made her to listen to sexual stories, forced her to hug him and walked around shirtless. She had been fired after complaining about his behavior.[3]
