An effort to recall Mayor Dedrick Johnson did not go to a vote in Texas City, Texas. On August 5, 2025, recall organizers submitted 1,303 signatures. City Secretary Rhomari Leigh verified 989 signatures, putting the recall effort short of the 1,010 valid signatures needed to put the recall on the ballot.[1]

Petitions were filed by Texas City resident Joshua McMeekin. KPRC 2 reported that McMeekin argued that Johnson stated that grounds for recalling Johnson included alleged violations of the open meetings act, concerns about issues within the city police department, and claims of exerting excessive control over the city commission.[2]
