Biography and Education

Schaefer was born in Sac City, IA. He served in the U.S. Army and holds undergraduate (1975) and law (1979) degrees from the University of Iowa. He has two sons.

Career

Schaefer practiced law in Cherokee and Aurelia, Iowa and then became a magistrate for Cherokee County. He was appointed district judge in 1989 and continues to serve the court on senior status.
