BATON ROUGE, Louisiana: Louisiana Amendment 1's fate has been decided. In the state of Louisiana voters cast their ballots on whether to ban real estate transfer taxes, and approved it with about 80% of the vote.
Also known as the "Immovable Property Tax" and Amendment 1 the ballot question read:
To prohibit the levy of new taxes or fees upon the sale or transfer of immovable property, including documentary transaction taxes or fees, or any other tax or fee, by the state or any of its political subdivisions after November 30, 2011.
With 3,513 out of 4,258 precincts reporting as of 9:30 p.m. CST, all signs pointed to the approval of the measure in a landslide.
