Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Strance was a judge of the Hawai`i Third Circuit of Hawaii. She was nominated by Gov. Linda Lingle, approved by the Hawaii Senate, and sworn in on March 31, 2005. Her term expired on March 30, 2015.[1][2] Strance withdrew her retention application after the State Judicial Selection Commission voted not to approve her for a second term.[3]

Education

Strance earned a B.A. from Willamette University and a J.D. from Lewis & Clark College.[4]

Career

Strance began her legal career as an associate attorney with the law firms of Peterson and Gravelle and Greely, Walker, and Kowen. She then became a partner with the firm of Goodsill Anderson Quinn and Stifel. At the time of her judicial appointment, she was a partner of the Strance and Nakoa law firm. She also worked as a per diem district and family court judge from 1999 to 2005, before joining the Third Circuit Court.[5]
