An Emmett Independent School District No. 221 Tax Levy question was defeated on the May 21, 2013, election ballot in Gem and Boise Counties, which are in Idaho.
If approved, this measure would have authorized the Emmet Independent School District No. 221 to impose a supplemental levy of $1.5 million per year for two years in order to fund the maintenance and operation of the district. This levy is intended to replace the current supplemental levy which is expiring in June of 2013.[1]

Question on the ballot:
“ | Shall the Board of Trustees of Emmett Independent School District No. 221, Gem and Boise Counties, Idaho, be authorized and empowered to levy a supplemental levy, as permitted by law in Section 33-802(3), Idaho Code One Million Five Hundred Thousand Dollars ($1,500,000), each year for two years for a total of Three Million Dollars ($3,000,000) for the purpose of paying all lawful expenses of maintaining and operating the schools of the District for the fiscal years beginning July 1, 2013 and ending June 30, 2015?

Support
The Board of Trustees approved this measure because the school will need additional funding as the state will be unable to provide funding for certain projects. Money from this levy will be used to construct and elevator and do necessary repairs and maintenance on facility roofs.
