Fernando Silva
Fernando Silva was a judge on the Family Court in New York City, New York. He was appointed in February 2011.[1] He died on July 18, 2013. (See story below)[2]
Education
Silva received his undergraduate degree from Catholic University and his J.D. from Boston College.[1]
Career
Silva served in the Legal Aid Society's Juvenile Right Division for six years. Next, he was a Principal Court Attorney for New York State's Family and Supreme Courts. He served in this position for 16 years, until his appointment to the Family Court in New York City in February 2011.[1]
Judge Silva dies of cardiac arrest
Judge Silva died at the age of 51 after suffering from cardiac arrest. He was rushed to the hospital the evening of July 18, 2013 after collapsing on the floor of his Brooklyn apartment. His partner, Joseph Fitzsimmons, alerted the neighbors, who called 911. At the hospital, he was pronounced dead.[2]
