Gaines C. McCorquodale is the Democratic judge of the Alabama 1st Judicial Circuit, Seat 1. He was appointed by Gov. Bob Riley, effective January 12, 2009, to replace Thomas Baxter. He was elected to a full six-year term in 2010. McCorquodale won re-election in the general election on November 8, 2016.[1][2]

Biography

McCorquodale graduated from University of Alabama with his Bachelor of Arts and earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1971. He was the Managing Partner of McCorquodale and McCorquodale in Jackson. He served on the Alabama Oil and Gas Board from 1976 until 2008. He has practiced as both a defense and prosecuting attorney, and worked as an assistant district attorney for five years. He has experience in civil cases, criminal cases and litigation in juvenile court. In January 2009, he was appointed Circuit Judge in the First Judicial Circuit by Alabama Governor Bob Riley.[3][2][4][5][6]

Alabama held general elections for local judicial offices in 2016. A primary election took place on March 1, 2016, with a primary runoff on April 12, 2016. The general election was held on November 8, 2016.

Incumbent Gaines C. McCorquodale ran unopposed in the general election for the Alabama 1st Judicial Circuit Place 1 seat.[7]
