Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Utah

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states. To contribute to the list of Utah scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.

Noteworthy events

Sexual misconduct allegations and suspension from Utah Democratic Party (2022)

On August 13, 2022, the Democratic Party of Utah suspended Davis over allegations that he inappropriately touched Sonia Weglinski, an intern working on his re-election campaign during summer 2022. In an Instagram post, Weglinski alleged that Davis touched her butt with a towel while trying to remove dirt that was on her clothing.[14] Davis told the Salt Lake City Tribune that he didn't hear Weglinski say that she was uncomfortable.[15]

Utah Senate President Stuart Adams (R) announced that Davis had been removed from committee assignments on October 19, 2022. The same day, Davis announced he would resign from the senate on November 19, 2022. His attorney said, "Though Senator Davis continues to deny any wrongdoing, recent events have made it impractical for him to continue his work in the Senate...So, in the best interest of his constituency and the people of Utah, Senator Davis has determined to step aside and resign from the Utah State Senate."[1]
