Hawley appointed to Winnebago County Circuit Court
September 9, 2010
Wisconsin: Robert Hawley was appointed to the Winnebago County Circuit Court by Gov. Doyle on September 8, 2010. Hawley had applied in August to replace Judge Bruce Schmidt on this court. Schmidt retired on Sept. 7th, and Reserve Judge James Bayorgeon is filling-in until Hawley takes office on September 13, 2010 and his term will expire on August 1, 2011. Regarding his appointment, he said, "I am truly humbled and honored to be selected and I'm very excited to be back on the bench full-time."
Hawley is no stranger to the Winnebago County Circuit Court. He judged for this court from 1982 to 2006. Since his retirement from the position in 2006, he has worked as a reserve judge, adjunct law professor, mediator, and substitute teacher. He explained that his time as a reserve judge made him realize that he wanted to do more as a judge. "My sabbatical developed into more and more reserve work in Milwaukee and the Fox Valley and I got to thinking that I've got so many more things I wanted to do on the bench and making a difference," he said.[1]
