James A. Yancey

James Alan Yancey is a judge of the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court in Florida. He was appointed to a new position on this court by former Governor Jeb Bush on April 4, 2003, effective May 1, 2003. He was re-elected to a new six-year term in 2016.[1][2][3][4]
Education
Yancey received his B.A. in political science from the University of South Florida in 1981 and his J.D. from Samford University's Cumberland School of Law in 1984.[5][6]
Career
Yancey began his career in 1983 as a law clerk for the Pinellas County State Attorney. The following year, he joined the law firm of Devane, Munson, Allen & Langston. In 1989, he became a partner of that firm, which became Devane, Munson, Allen & Yancey. He left that position in 1996 to start his own firm, practicing under the title, James A. Yancey, P.A. until 1999. He was also a code enforcement hearing officer from 1994 to 1999. He was appointed to the Polk County Court in 1999. He served there until his appointment to the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court in 2003.[5][6]
Elections
2016
Florida's 20 circuit courts all had seats up for election in 2016. Of the 151 seats up for election, 125 saw only one candidate file for the election. The unopposed races were canceled and the sole candidates were automatically elected. Of the 26 opposed races, only 10 saw more than two candidates file. [7]

2010
Yancey ran unopposed and was automatically retained to a new term on the Tenth Judicial Circuit Court.[2]
