James E. Drane III

James E. Drane III is the Chief Magistrate Judge of Cherokee County, Georgia. He was appointed an Associate Magistrate Judge in 2000, and served three terms in that position. In 2008, Drane was elected Chief Magistrate Judge. He is presently serving in this second term in this position.[1][2]

Judges of the Georgia Magistrate Courts are either elected or appointed to terms of varying lengths.[3] The elections for this court type are contested and may be partisan or nonpartisan. To serve on this court, a judge must be a county resident for at least one year, be 25 years of age, and have a high school diploma or equivalent.[4]
Education
Drane received his undergraduate degree from Kennesaw State University in 1995 and his J.D. from John Marshall Law School in 1997.[2][5]
In addition to his legal eduction, Drane also participated in the Marine Patrol Academy at the Florida Law Enforcement Academy in 1981.[6]
