James F. Butler is the former chancellor for the Twenty-Sixth District Chancery Court in Tennessee. The court presides over Chester, Henderson, and Madison counties.[1] He served on the court from 2003 to 2021.[2]

Education

Butler received his undergraduate degree from Lambuth University in 1964 and his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee in 1966.[1]

Career

Butler worked as an attorney in private practice from 1967 until he became a chancellor in 2003. He also served as a member of the military's Judge Advocate General's Corps.

In addition to his legal career, Butler served in the Tennessee National Guard for twenty-eight years, retiring with the rank of colonel.[1]
