James V. Brands is a former justice for the Dutchess County Supreme Court in the 9th Judicial District of New York. He was elected to a term on this court that began in 2003, and he retired from the court in 2012.[1][2]

Education

Brands received his undergraduate degree from Hartwick College in 1965 and his J.D. degree from Albany Law School in 1968.[1]

Career

Brands worked as an Assistant Dutchess County District Attorney prior to his judicial career. He was then elected judge of the Dutchess County Family Court, taking office in 1994. He then joined the Supreme Court in 2003.[1]
