An effort to recall Jarod Lovett from his position on the Monroe County Commission in Georgia was launched in March 2016. High Falls resident Joe Cannon said that he initiated the recall because Lovett convinced the county to hire a code enforcement officer without consulting the public. Lovett pushed for the position on March 1 after receiving complaints about junk cars and run-down houses.[1] The recall did not go to a vote.[2]
Cannon said he and several neighbors have junk cars in their yards, and he believes most people share his view regarding the code enforcement officer: "They’re stepping on my personal freedom against what I want to do with my property."[1] He continued, "This will be his personal attack dog, and if they don’t like us, they’ll say you’re in code violation."[1] Cannon said the county should have held a public hearing on the matter before making a decision. Lovett said that he had a lot of support for his decision to push for the new position.[3]

Cannon began circulating a petition in March 2016 that needed 25 signatures to initiate the recall process. If the recall petition had gone forward, recall proponents would have needed to collect valid signatures equal to 15 percent of the number of persons that voted in the last preceding election for the office of the incumbent being recalled.
