Skifstad submitted the statement below to the Kitsap County 2017 voters' pamphlet:[1]

Thanks for taking time to be an informed voter! Gratitude and growth motivate me to serve on the school board. My wife Shirley is a teacher, and good schools were a big reason why we made our home in Central Kitsap decades ago. CK schools prepared our two daughters to earn Biology degrees at UW, and our oldest currently attends UW dental school. Sounders Academy alum Jaeger was Kitsap Sun Player Of The Year at CKHS, and he’s now a UW freshman. Our youngest son enjoys Cougar Valley Elementary. Great work so far, CK schools!

Good parenting has meant different things as our children grew, and our growing school district offers similar challenges and opportunities. My background in finance and law will help keep our district growing well, as will my proven abilities in analytical thinking, communication, and negotiation. As a grateful parent and as a tax payer, I want to keep growing our Return On Investment in Kitsap kids, our most precious resource. I have loved parenting, tutoring, and coaching. Service on the school board lets me help the next generation of children experience the educational success my own kids have enjoyed.[4]
