Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl is an assistant United States attorney in the District of North Dakota. She was nominated for a judicial appointment to the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit by President Barack Obama on January 28, 2016. Hearings on Puhl's nomination before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary were held on June 21, 2016. On January 3, 2017, Puhl's nomination was returned to President Obama at the sine die adjournment of the 114th Congress.[1][2][3]

Education

Puhl earned her B.A. magna cum laude in 1997 from the University of North Dakota and her J.D. cum laude in 2000 from the University of North Dakota School of Law.[2]

Puhl was nominated by President Obama to be a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit on January 28, 2016. Obama commented on the nomination, "Throughout her career, Jennifer Klemetsrud Puhl has shown unwavering integrity and an outstanding commitment to public service. I am proud to nominate her to serve on the United States Court of Appeals."[2]

The American Bar Association rated Puhl Majority Qualified, Minority Not Qualified for the nomination.[4]

Hearings on Puhl's nomination before the Senate Judiciary Committee were held on June 21, 2016, and her nomination was reported by U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) on July 14, 2016.
