Jim Gerlt is a former member of the Lubbock City Council in Texas, representing District 4 from 2012 to 2016.[1] Gerlt ran for re-election in 2016 and was defeated by Steve Massengale in the general election on May 7, 2016.

Gerlt obtained a B.A. in psychology and Christianity from Southwest Baptist College and a M. Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His professional experience includes working as a pastor and as a consultant for the Maximo Group, L. P., a communications firm.[1]

The city of Lubbock, Texas, held elections for mayor and city council on May 7, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 19, 2016. Four of six council seats were up for election on the same day, the three regularly-scheduled for election and District 1, which was up for a special election. Two of them were up for runoff election on June 25, 2016, including the District 1 seat.[2] Steve Massengale defeated incumbent Jim Gerlt in the Lubbock City Council District 4 general election.[3]
