Education and environmental sustainability, including "going green," are crucial areas of public policy that I’m passionate about. Here's how they intertwine: Environmental Education Integrates school curricula and equips students with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to understand and address environmental challenges; teaching concepts such as climate change, conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable practices.
Green Infrastructure: Investing within schools, such as energy-efficient buildings, renewable energy systems, and eco-friendly transportation options, not only reduces environmental impact. Some other areas are Experiential Learning Community Engagement , and Environmental Justice.
I look up to Russell Simmons and Pierce Brosnan, two business moguls who exemplify creativity and principled leadership. Both individuals embrace practices such as journaling and cultivating a tranquil mindset to develop holistic business strategies. Russell's infectious positivity and commitment to empowerment inspire me, while Pierce's dedication to excellence and egalitarian values, such as offering the "red carpet treatment" to all, resonates deeply with me. I aspire to follow their examples by integrating creativity, mindfulness, and inclusivity into my own endeavors, striving to make a positive impact and empower others along the way.
The books "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell and "Mindset" by Carol Dweck are valuable resources for understanding human behavior and personal growth. "Blink" explores how people form impressions of others within seconds, while "Mindset" delves into fixed and growth mindsets and their impact on learning and development. These concepts are crucial for fostering open-mindedness and empathy, especially when working with students and young leaders. By embracing a growth mindset and avoiding preconceived notions, we can cultivate a more inclusive and understanding environment on our campuses. This is my view and life goal to have a growth mindset with all people through a positive mental attitude.
In summary, elected officials must prioritize several key qualities to effectively serve their constituents and uphold democratic principles. These include integrity, leadership, accountability, problem-solving ability, empathy, and candor. By demonstrating honesty, ethics, and transparency in their actions and decisions, officials can build trust and credibility among the public. Effective leadership involves inspiring others toward common goals and guiding the community through challenges with vision and resilience. Accountability requires taking responsibility for actions and decisions, as well as being open to feedback and scrutiny from constituents. Problem-solving ability is essential for addressing complex issues and finding innovative solutions that benefit the community. Empathy enables officials to understand and address the diverse needs and concerns of their constituents with compassion and understanding. Finally, candor involves communicating openly and honestly, even when discussing difficult or sensitive topics, to foster transparency and build trust. By embodying these qualities, elected officials can foster positive change and create a more inclusive and prosperous community for all.
My top qualities include candor, leadership, problem-solving, critical thinking, being a connector, boldness, confidence, integrity, and trustworthiness. These attributes collectively form a strong foundation for success as an officeholder. Candor ensures transparent communication, while leadership inspires and guides others toward common goals. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills enable effective navigation of challenges, and being a connector fosters collaboration and builds networks. Boldness and confidence drive decisive action, while integrity and trustworthiness earn respect and confidence. These qualities position me well to lead with integrity and make meaningful contributions as an officeholder.
The core responsibilities for elected officials encompass representation, legislation, constituent services, oversight, budgeting, policy advocacy, community engagement, conflict resolution, sound decision-making, and effective communication. By upholding these pillars, officials serve their constituents, promote the public good, and contribute to community well-being and prosperity.
The legacy I aspire to leave behind is one of accomplishment and excellence. I want people to remember me as someone who consistently delivered results and tackled challenges with determination and integrity. Whether it's through my work, leadership, or relationships, I aim to leave a lasting impression of competence and reliability. Ultimately, I seek the respect and admiration of those who understand the context and complexities of my efforts, knowing that I strived for nothing less than a job well done in everything I pursued.
The first historical event that stands out in my memory is attending one of my sister's cheerleading competitions. I vividly recall the excitement and energy of the event, with my sister showcasing her skills and enthusiasm on the mat. These competitions often took place at venues like Magic Mountain, where I cherished the opportunity to watch her perform and enjoy rides with my dad during breaks. This experience left a lasting impression on me, and I associate it with my early elementary school years, around second or third grade.
Student Aide - Main Office/ Building & Ground worker 2 1/2 years.
The Bible because it’s something new every time I read it or my understanding has been expanded and enhanced.
Superman because I would always want to save the world and help people have a brighter day.
Struggling to maintain a moderate weight has been a challenge in my life. I find that when I don't prioritize regular exercise, I can quickly gain weight. This ongoing battle requires consistent effort and discipline to maintain a healthy lifestyle and achieve my fitness goals.
The primary job of a school board member is to serve as a liaison between the school district and the community, providing constituents with essential information and a communicational platform. This involves breaking down district information into sectors and sub-communities to ensure that all stakeholders receive the necessary insights to fulfill their roles effectively. By increasing transparency and understanding within the district, school board members can inspire collaboration among students, staff, parents, and community members, ultimately working together to improve education and create a better world.
My constituents consist of all people that are connected to education, work in education or are affected by it.
Supporting the diverse needs of students, faculty, staff, and the community requires a multifaceted approach that prioritizes listening, understanding, and proactive action. Firstly, I would engage in active listening to identify and understand the specific needs and challenges faced by individuals and groups within the district. Then, I would collaborate with stakeholders to develop tailored solutions and provide necessary support. For example, I would incorporate age-appropriate conversations into the curriculum to address topics such as stress and trauma, ensuring that students have a safe space to express their emotions and seek support. Additionally, I would implement programs and initiatives to promote mental health and well-being for both students and staff, such as counseling services and professional development opportunities. By fostering open dialogue, empathy, and proactive support, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone in the district.
To build relationships with the broader community, I will engage with various local organizations, stakeholders, and groups that share a common interest in education and community well-being. Specifically, I will target local community leaders, PTA groups, and other social organizations focused on education. Additionally, I will reach out to organizations related to nutrition, the environment, arts, health, sports, and fashion, as these areas intersect with different aspects of education and community life. By collaborating with diverse groups and stakeholders, we can leverage their expertise, resources, and networks to support our educational goals and foster a sense of unity and collaboration within the broader community.
Good teaching is characterized by several key factors, including student engagement, effective communication of information, and the ability to facilitate the application of classroom knowledge to real-life situations. To measure the quality of teaching, I would utilize various methods such as student feedback, classroom observations, and assessment results to gauge student understanding and teacher effectiveness. Additionally, I would support advanced teaching approaches by recognizing and rewarding educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication and innovation in their teaching practices. This could involve providing professional development opportunities, resources, and mentorship to help teachers further develop their skills and implement evidence-based practices. By fostering an environment that encourages growth and empowers educators to experiment with new teaching methods, we can ultimately enhance the quality of education for all students.
Expanding the curriculum to include advanced technical training and apprenticeships would be incredibly beneficial for preparing students for the workforce and providing them with valuable real-world experience. Implementing a mandatory apprenticeship component, where students must complete a minimum of three months of apprenticeship to graduate, would promote community engagement and hands-on learning. This could involve partnerships with local businesses, organizations, and job core programs to offer a variety of apprenticeship opportunities tailored to students' interests and career goals. Additionally, innovative programming could include collaborative projects with industry professionals, mentorship programs, and experiential learning initiatives to enhance students' skills and knowledge in emerging fields. By providing diverse pathways for students to explore their passions and gain practical experience, we can better prepare them for success in the ever-evolving job market.
To ensure schools are properly funded, I would advance the following strategies:

Advocacy and Lobbying: Establish direct connections with state legislators, the state registrar, and other key decision-makers to advocate for increased funding for schools. This includes actively participating in lobbying efforts and advocating for policies that prioritize education funding.
Transparency and Accountability: Ensure transparency in financial management by maintaining open communication with stakeholders, including staff, parents, and community members. This involves regularly reporting on budget allocations, expenditures, and funding sources to ensure accountability and build trust.
Efficient Resource Allocation: Implement strategies to optimize resource allocation and maximize funding effectiveness. This includes conducting regular budget reviews, identifying areas for cost savings, and prioritizing funding for programs and initiatives that directly benefit students.
Grant Writing and Fundraising: Explore opportunities for additional funding through grant writing and fundraising efforts. This may involve seeking out grants, sponsorships, and donations from private foundations, corporations, and community organizations to supplement existing funding sources.
Collaboration and Partnerships: Foster partnerships with local businesses, nonprofit organizations, and community groups to leverage resources and support school funding initiatives. This includes collaborating on fundraising events, sponsorship opportunities, and community outreach efforts to garner support for education funding.

Advocacy for Legislative Action: Advocate for legislative action at the state and federal levels to increase education funding and support policies that prioritize educational equity and excellence. This involves engaging with policymakers, participating in advocacy campaigns, and mobilizing community support for legislative initiatives.
Ensuring the safety and well-being of students is my top priority. In a city where danger is prevalent, safeguarding students is crucial for creating a better learning environment. Integrity, honesty, vigilance, awareness, good listening skills, and foresight are at the forefront of my principles for optimal safety. These values drive my commitment to providing a secure and protected environment where students can thrive and reach their full potential.
I propose implementing designated "mindful days" throughout the school year to support the mental health needs of students and staff. These days will focus on creating a relaxing environment where individuals can unwind and recharge. Activities may include walks, games, and community events aimed at fostering relaxation and mindfulness. Additionally, counseling opportunities will be available with certified staff, providing support and guidance as needed. Mindfulness exercises will also be incorporated to promote well-being and stress relief. By prioritizing mental health and offering dedicated time for relaxation, we can create a healthier and more supportive school environment for everyone.
The new policy I propose is to implement a foreign language class in every elementary school. These classes will provide students with foundational tutorials in various languages, aimed at increasing reading, comprehension, and communication skills from a young age. Students will receive hands-on practice in multiple languages using educational apps and assistive technology tools. By exposing students to different languages early on, we aim to cultivate a more culturally aware and globally competent generation, while also enhancing their cognitive abilities and academic performance.
In my ideal learning environment for students, I envision a holistic approach to education that fosters a sense of comfort and freedom, akin to feeling at home while on vacation. This environment should be designed to minimize stress and promote enjoyment, making school a place where students look forward to learning and exploring new ideas. A welcoming and nurturing classroom atmosphere, coupled with a school culture that values diversity, inclusivity, and respect, is essential for creating an environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Additionally, providing a least restrictive environment (LRE) for learning ensures that students have access to the necessary supports and accommodations to meet their individual needs while fostering independence and self-confidence. By prioritizing student well-being and creating a positive and engaging learning environment, we can empower students to reach their full potential and become lifelong learners.
The district made decisions based on what they believed was best. In my role, I'll prioritize making sound decisions after listening to all constituents, colleagues, and my own conscience. By considering diverse perspectives and weighing all input, I aim to ensure decisions are thoughtful, fair, and in the best interest of the community.
Building strong relationships with parents in the district requires proactive communication, recognition, and collaboration. I would implement monthly meetings with parents and stakeholders whose students meet certain benchmarks, providing an opportunity for open dialogue, feedback, and collaboration on how to further support student success. Additionally, I would recognize and reward parents who go above and beyond their duties with special monthly meetings and gestures of appreciation. Public acknowledgment of parents' contributions and achievements would further strengthen the relationship and foster a sense of community within the district. By actively engaging with parents, listening to their concerns, and acknowledging their efforts, we can build a supportive partnership focused on the well-being and success of all students.
My preferred strategies for faculty, staff, and administration recruitment involve a dual approach that emphasizes both internal talent development and external recruitment efforts. Firstly, I would engage with classified employees within the organization, offering incentives and support for those interested in transitioning to teaching roles. This approach not only recognizes and nurtures talent already within the organization but also fosters a sense of loyalty and commitment among staff members. Additionally, I would actively recruit from college campuses, seeking out enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about education and eager to begin their careers. By combining these strategies, we can cultivate a diverse and skilled team of educators, staff, and administrators who are dedicated to providing high-quality education and support to students.
I believe that financial transparency and government accountability are essential principles in effective governance. Transparency fosters trust and confidence among stakeholders by providing clear and accessible information about how public funds are being utilized. It allows for greater accountability, as it enables constituents to hold government officials accountable for their decisions and actions.

In the context of a school district, financial transparency means providing regular updates and reports on budget allocations, expenditures, and financial decisions. It involves ensuring that stakeholders, including staff, parents, and community members, have access to information about how taxpayer dollars are being spent and the impact of those expenditures on the education system.
Government accountability goes hand in hand with transparency. It means holding government officials responsible for their actions and decisions, ensuring that they act in the best interests of the public and are accountable for the outcomes of their policies and programs. This includes mechanisms for oversight, such as audits, reviews, and public hearings, to ensure that government agencies are operating efficiently, ethically, and in accordance with established laws and regulations.

Overall, I believe that financial transparency and government accountability are critical for promoting trust, integrity, and effective governance. By prioritizing transparency and accountability, we can ensure that taxpayer dollars are being used responsibly and that government officials are held to the highest standards of ethical conduct and performance.
