Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Burk's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Coal: I am for federal deregulation of the coal industry. I believe Kentucky regulators should have total authority in regulating our coal companies. For many years, research and development in the coal industry has been impacted by excessive federal regulation.
  • Entitlements: First, I would fight hard for automatic cost of living adjustments for current beneficiaries. In addition, Social Security and Medicare need reform in order to survive for future generations. There are only two ways to fix these programs. You must either raise revenues through tax increases or cut benefits. However, I don't believe some politician should get to make this tough choice for you. Under my plan, each American will get to personalize their own government benefits.
  • No Gas Tax: I want to lower gas prices even more for everyone. I would eliminate the federal gas tax. I believe this tax to be punitive on the working poor and makes all the goods we purchase more expensive.
  • Mom Tax Credit: Every birth mother will receive a $25,000 tax credit. I believe this will encourage more adoptions and reduce abortions. I also believe population growth is needed to ensure future economic growth. This tax credit would also be linked directly to increased productivity. The baby boomer generation had many positive economic impacts. It is no coincidence that as our population rates have declined, the economy of our country has declined.
  • Student Loan Reform: All private and federal student loan interest will become dischargeable in bankruptcy. Private student loans must be written with a fixed interest rate. Student loan interest paid will become tax deductible at any amount.
