John F. Bender was a judge for the Franklin County general division of the Courts of Common Pleas in Columbus, Ohio. He retired on Dec. 31, 2012.[1][2]

Education

Bender received both his undergraduate degree and his J.D. from The Ohio State University.[3]

Career

Before joining the Court of Common Pleas, Bender served as a Crawford County Municipal Court judge from 1978 to 1990. In 1991, Bender was hired by then-Secretary of State Bob Taft to serve as chief elections counsel and in 1999, when Taft became Governor, he appointed Bender as the director of the State Office of Criminal Justice Services. Bender was appointed by Taft to the Court of Common Pleas in April of 2000, but he lost the election that November. In 2003, Taft appointed him to the court again to fill a judicial vacancy. Since then, Bender has been re-elected twice to the bench.[4]

2010 election

Bender was re-elected after running unopposed.[5]
