John H. Sandoz was an assigned judge of the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California.[1] He was appointed to the court by Governor Pete Wilson in 1995, and he retired at the end of 2005.[2] After his retirement, he participated in the Assigned Judges Program, which assigns retired judges temporary jurisdiction in the event of vacancies or high case loads in the courts.[3]

Education

Sandoz received an undergraduate degree in mathematics from the University of California Los Angeles in 1955, going on to earn his J.D. there in 1970.[2]

Military experience

After earning his undergraduate degree, Sandoz served in the U.S. Army for two years.[2]

  • 1995-2005: Judge, Los Angeles County Superior Court (Appointed by Gov. Pete Wilson)
  • 1981-1995: Commissioner, Los Angeles Family Courts (Appointed)
  • 1975-1981: Director of legal services, University of Southern California
  • 1971-1981: Attorney in private practice
  • 1970: Reginald Hebert Smith fellow at a legal services office
  • 1960-1967: Ford Motor Company's aerospace division
  • 1958-1960: U.S. Government's White Sands missile test base in New Mexico[2]
