John R. Smiley was a judge for the Superior Court of Ventura County in Ventura County, California.[1] He assumed office in 1998 and was re-elected on June 5, 2012. Smiley left office on August 1, 2022.[2]

Education

Smiley received his undergraduate degree from Princeton University and his J.D. degree from the Southwestern Law School.[3]

Career

From 1986 until his elevation to the Superior Court of Ventura County in 1998, Smiley served as a municipal court judge. Prior to his judicial career, he was a partner at the law firm of Lucking, Bertelsen, Bysshe, Kuttler & Smiley in Ventura, California, and specialized in family and business law for thirteen years.[2]
