Dr. Jordan Howard Breslaw, Esq. ran for election to the Broward County Court in 2010. He was defeated in the primary by Mary Rudd Robinson.[3]

Election lawsuit

Breslaw's opponent in the 2010 election, Mary Rudd Robinson, has filed a lawsuit seeking to remove Breslaw's name from the ballot. Breslaw's birth name is "Jordan Howard Breslaw". When Breslaw filed his qualification documents, that is the name he used. According to Florida elections law, a candidate must "Print name as you wish it to appear on the ballot."[4] Breslaw has been known professionally as "Dr. Jordan Howard Jordan" and "Dr. Jordan Howard Breslaw". It is under the name "Jordan Howard Jordan" that he is registered with the Florida Bar. He also has a Doctor of Chiropractic license under the "Jordan Howard Jordan" name, and has written a book under that name.

However, Breslaw wished to run under his family name "Breslaw" because he went to high school and college in Broward County, Florida, as "Breslaw" and many voters knew him and his family by his surname. Jordan stated, "Jordan Howard Breslaw is my birth name and I'm proud of it."[1]

Robinson's lawsuit asked that Brenda Snipes, Supervisor of Elections, remove the name "Jordan Howard Breslaw" from the ballot on the grounds that "Dr. Jordan H. Breslaw, Esq. does not exist." Breslaw's response was that the attorneys who represented his opponent lost a similar lawsuit, Dijols vs. Mardi Anne Levey, in 2008, wherein Mardi Anne Levey qualified and was permitted to use her maiden name, despite being known and licensed by the Florida Bar as Mardi Levey Cohen.[5] After appealing the case to the Florida Fourth District Court of Appeal, he was reinstated to the ballot.

Early life and education

Breslaw was born in Brooklyn, New York. He moved to Florida in 1976, where he attended the University of Florida and graduated from Broward College. He also graduated with a B.S. in Nutrition and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University. He worked as a Doctor of Chiropractic in Broward County for 20 years. He is also a Florida Supreme Court Circuit-Civil Mediator and Florida Supreme Court Qualified Arbitrator.

He earned his law degree from Nova Southeastern University in 1997. After graduation he started the law firm of Jordan Howard Jordan where he practiced "civil trial law, personal injury law, property loss, premises liability, Florida No-Fault law, and commercial litigation for 10 years in Margate."[2]

Book

Breslaw wrote a book in 2006 called "How to Raise Millionaire Children."[6]
