Jose M. Lopez is a judge on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. He was appointed to the court by President George H.W. Bush in 1990. Lopez serves as Presiding Judge of the Domestic Violence Unit.[1]

Education

Lopez received his undergraduate degree from Middlebury College in 1973 and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 1977.[1]

Career

Lopez spent much of his legal career in private practice. He also worked as an Attorney Advisor to the Benefits Review Board at the United States Department of Labor.[1]

Teaching

Lopez has been a faculty member at the National Judicial College in Reno and has taught in Angola, Chile and Mexico on judicial system assessment.[1]
