Mattos earned his bachelor's degree from Georgia Southern University.[2]

Four of the eight seats on the Bulloch County Board of Education were up for general election on May 24, 2016. There was no primary. District 3 challenger Stuart Tedders and District 8 incumbent Maurice Hill won without opposition. District 1 incumbent Cheri Wagner defeated challengers H. Lee Jones and Shalah Hendrix. Heather Mims defeated Josh Mattos in the race to replace Mike Herndon in District 7.[1]
