Judge Daugherty to end long judicial career

Independence, Missouri: Judge Jay A. Daugherty has announced that he will retire from the Missouri 16th Judicial Circuit Court on December 31, 2010. He has served on this court for the past 20 years, but wishes to return to the private practice of law. He will work full-time as a mediator and arbitrator.
Prior to joining the 16th Circuit Court, Daugherty worked as an administrative law judge for seven years and as an assistant attorney general for three years. He was appointed to the circuit court by Gov. Ashcroft in 1991. From 2003 to 2004, he was the presiding judge of the court. Regarding retirement, Daugherty said, "I am proud to have been a member of one of the best trial courts in the country. On my departure, I am certainly grateful to have served with so many fine judges and feel blessed that the court’s staff consists of many talented and loyal individuals."[1]
