In October 2011, Judge Nelson was charged with two misdemeanors: a DUI with property damage and resisting arrest without violence. She was released on bail and had no comment about the incident.[1]
Nelson initially entered a not guilty plea and requested a jury trial.[5] The case was to be heard in January 2012, but attorneys struck a plea deal before the case could go to trial. Nelson changed her plead to "no contest" and was sentenced to one year of probation, DUI school, fifty hours of community service and a $500 fine.[6][7]
