Keith Westercamp is the former District 3 representative on the Cedar Rapids Community School District school board in Iowa. First elected in 1997, Westercamp lost a re-election campaign in the by-district general election on September 12, 2017.

Westercamp received a B.S. from Iowa State University before earning an MBA from the University of Iowa. He previously worked as an instructor at the University of Iowa College of Business. Westercamp owns Appraisal Associates Company and has served as president of the Iowa Appraisal Institute.[1]

Three of seven seats on the Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education in Iowa were up for general election on September 12, 2017. One seat is up for at-large election and two seats, District 2 and District 3, are up for by-district election. All three incumbents filed to retain their seats.[2]

At-large incumbent Gary Anhalt defeated newcomers Theodore Collins and Christopher Gehrke. District 2 incumbent Nancy Humbles was the only candidate to file for the seat and was re-elected. In District 3, newcomer Jennifer Borcherding defeated incumbent Keith Westercamp.[3]

On September 7, 2013, The Gazette endorsed incumbent Westercamp over challenger Lawrence Wenclawski in the September 10, 2013 board election.[4]

Westercamp won re-election to the board on September 8, 2009. He ran unopposed in District 3 with 18 write-in votes cast.[5]

Campaign themes

2013

In a July 9, 2013 interview with The Gazette, Westercamp noted facilities improvements and investments in educational technology as his campaign themes. "We've been a district that has spent money on textbooks instead of computers, we're finally in a place where we've got to consider, 'What are we doing for the future?" said Westercamp. He also cited the development of learning communities and general improvements to district policies as achievements during his time on the board.[6]
