Elections
2015
Two of the seven at-large seats on the Shenendehowa Central School District Board of Education were up for general election on May 19, 2015. Because the election was held at-large, every qualified voter in the school district was able to vote for both seats. The two candidates who received the most votes in the election were elected to the board.
The seats held by incumbents Janet Grey and Robert Pressly were on the ballot. Grey did not file for re-election, leaving Pressly to run against three challengers: Samuel H. Hazleton V, Christina Rajotte and Kerensa Rybak. Pressley retained his seat and Rajotte won her first term.

Rybak published the following letter to the editor outlining her goals for the board:
“ | My name is Kerensa Rybak, and I am running for the Shenendehowa Board of Education.
This community is important to me, and I have spent the last ten years of my life trying to give back to it and its members. I have been PTA co-president at both Orenda and Gowana, and am currently serving on the Board of Directors for Nick’s Fight to be Healed. I have five children, who span all three levels of schooling in Shen – daughters in middle and high school, and three sons in elementary. Because of this, I have a unique perspective into the many layers of Shen education. The world has changed drastically in the last twenty years, and first-person knowledge is key in understanding the challenges that face our kids today. I am running to help continue our progress, into the twenty-first century, and offer my support in an educational climate that has begun to lose its morale. If elected, my goals are many. Some of them are as follows: ◘ Better dialogue and collaboration between the board and the teachers, district employees and parents in the community. Continued advancements in district technology and environmental responsibility. ◘ Support for educators and parents who wish to opt out of high stakes testing, and debate the Common Core standards. It is important that the district work together to examine this trend and its effect on our students and teachers. ◘ Beginning the process of clearly marking flex zones for redistricting purposes. ◘ Continuing to provide dignity and respect for all students within Shen. I like elections because the provide the constituency a choice, but human rights should never be up for a vote. Shen needs to be on the right side of history. Please feel free to contact me through facebook (Kerensa for BOE) or on my website (www.kerensaforboe.com) Thank you for your support.[8] |
