I have an extensive legal background and thorough understanding of all work environments -- private enterprise (Wise/Old London Foods), not-for-profit institutions (Columbia University, and the New York Botanical Garden), and government service (New York Department of Labor, and the Wayne County Department of Social Services). In addition, I have substantial experience in all major areas of administration, such as human resources, marketing, public relations, development, and community relations. As a labor attorney and a former Human Resources Director, I have a lifetime of experience finding viable solutions to difficult human resources problems. Educational background includes a BA in Spanish Literature from Wayne State University, an MBA in Marketing from Manhattan University, and a JD from Brooklyn Law School. Community involvement includes being elected for five consecutive terms as President of the Hispanic Business & Professional Association of Bergen County, and being appointed a Member of the Board of Trustees of Ramapo College of New Jersey.

There is no doubt that the construction boom in Coral Gables has upset many of our citizens and it is clearly the most important issue that must be addressed by our elected officials. The character of our city is under assault and a better balance must be achieved between the needs of our community and its property owners.
The ability to find viable solutions to difficult human resources problems is a key to a successful career as an elected official.
I have more than ten years of experience working in governmental organizations, private enterprise firms, and the non-profit sector. That experience has made me a very effective problem solver.
Don Quijote De la Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes. This novel was a founding work of Western literature, and is considered to be the first modern novel. I have visited Spain four times and thoroughly enjoyed visiting the various areas described in the book.
Prior experience in government and politics is critical to the success of a Commissioner. It is part of his/her job to make sure that the organization's resources are not squandered.
I would recommend that there be greater involvement by the City Commission into how the budget is put together by the City Manager. There is a lot of money spent by our administrators and not enough supervision of how the final numbers are put together. It is important that he Commission become aware of how vendors are picked for specific jobs, as well as the bidding process they must engage in prior to getting a city contract. More time must be spent in the actual process of budget creation by he Commission, if we are ever to bring the appropriate supervision over the process.
Government officials must learn how to put in place specific processes that ensure transparency and open debate. An open organization needs to become more open as it proposes and advances critical initiatives.
