M. James Chaney, Jr. is a judge for the Ninth Judicial District of Mississippi. He was appointed by Governor Haley Barbour on June 1, 2009, and was elected in 2010.[1][2] He was re-elected on November 4, 2014, for a term that begins in 2015 and will expire in 2018.[3][4]

General: He defeated Edwin Woods, Jr. in the general election on November 4, 2014, receiving 79.3 percent of the vote. [4]

Chaney was elected to the Ninth Judicial District after running unopposed.[2]

Education

Chaney received a bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi, going on to earn his J.D. there as well.[1]

Career

Prior to his judicial appointment in 2009, Chaney was a partner in the Vicksburg law firm of Teller, Chaney, Hassell & Hopson LLP, where he specialized in litigation, business law and school law. He also served as special assistant attorney general in 1977.[1]
