Margaret L. Murphy was a district court judge for the Third Judicial District in Homer, Alaska. She was initially appointed to the bench in April 2005 by Gov. Frank Murkowski (R). Murphy was retained for a four-year term in 2012. She won another full term in the retention election on November 8, 2016. She left office in 2019.
Education
Judge Murphy attended Valparaiso University in 1978 with her Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1987 she graduated from Valparaiso University of Law with a J.D.[1]

- 1998-2005: She was a magistrate for Aniak and McGrath District Courts. She was also acting District Court Judge for the Bethel District Court
- 1993-1994: She worked as trial counsel and officer-in-charge for the Department of the Army
- 1991-1993: She worked as a Command Judge Advocate for the Department of the Army
- 1990-1991: She worked as chief of client services for the Department of the Army
- 1988-1990: She was a legal assistance attorney and trial counsel for the Department of the Army
- 1988: She worked as a legal clerk for Hoeppner, Wagner & Evans
- 1987: She was a paralegal for Valparaiso University School of Law Clinic
- 1985-1987: She worked as a student librarian for Valparaiso University of Law[1]
