Matt Stone was a 2016 independent candidate for District 18 of the South Dakota State Senate. He withdrew from the race before the general election.[1]

The general elections for the office of South Dakota State Senate took place on November 4, 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 25, 2014. Bernie Hunhoff was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Matt Stone defeated Thomas Bixler in the Republican primary. Hunhoff defeated Stone in the general election.[7][8][9]

2012
Stone ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 18. Stone and Thomas Bixler were defeated by Mike Stevens and Thomas D. Stotz in the Republican primary on June 5. Charlie Gross and incumbent Bernie Hunhoff ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012. Incumbent Nick Moser (R) did not run for re-election.[10][11]
